Rescuing lives and restoring hope in Sinazongwe District, Zambia — through education, health outreach, gender equality, and care for the elderly.
Since our founding, HOREFO has grown from a single idea into four active programs reaching thousands across Sinazongwe — here's the impact so far.
Home of Rescue Foundation is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to uplifting vulnerable individuals in Sinazongwe District. We go beyond direct support to address the root causes — harmful cultural norms and weak law enforcement — that allow gender-based violence and economic disempowerment to persist in rural Zambia.
Each program meets a specific, named need in Sinazongwe — from a girl staying in school to an elder being seen and respected.
We tackle period poverty head-on by ensuring that no girl or woman has to choose between her dignity and her basic needs. Through the distribution of sanitary products and comprehensive education on menstrual health, we break the stigma, keep girls in school, and promote feminine hygiene.
We believe in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty. Our drive focuses on removing barriers to schooling by providing scholastic materials, advocating for girls' education, and supporting vulnerable children in Sinazongwe to access their right to learn in a safe environment.
We bring essential health services and information to the doorsteps of the community. Our outreach focuses on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, providing age-appropriate education and distributing materials to adolescents and women so they can make informed decisions about their bodies.
We honour and care for the elderly in our community by providing psychosocial support and essential care. Our program restores the dignity of the aged, ensuring they are protected, respected, and not forgotten as active members of society.
All figures reflect work focused on Sinazongwe District, Zambia.
Education is one of the clearest ways to break the cycle of poverty — but only if children can actually get to school safely, with the materials they need, and without barriers that push girls out first.
At Sikuteka, our Children's Education Drive provides scholastic materials, advocates for girls staying in school, and supports vulnerable children across Sinazongwe in accessing their right to learn in a safe environment.
Munkombwe Sinyiwimaanzi is the driving force behind the Home of Rescue Foundation. Born from a deep-seated passion for justice, she founded HOREFO to confront the intersecting challenges of poverty, violence, and discrimination that plague women, girls, and marginalised groups in Sinazongwe.
Witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of gender-based violence and economic disempowerment in rural Zambia, she established HOREFO to not only provide direct support but to tackle root causes — harmful cultural norms and weak law enforcement.
Today, she leads a dedicated team to empower the vulnerable, advocating for their rights and building a community where everyone has an improved quality of life.
